Toronto police are investigating a Coxwell Avenue collision that saw a cyclist hit by a van late Thursday night.

Sgt. Tim Burrows told ctvtoronto.ca that a 19-year-old male cyclist was travelling north in the curbside lane of Coxwell Avenue, with a van travelling beside him in the adjacent lane just past 11 p.m. on Thursday.

The cyclist made an abrupt left turn in front of the van and was struck just north of Casci Avenue, Burrows said.

He was rushed to hospital with head and chest injuries that were initially assessed as being life threatening.

The cyclist's injuries are now considered non-life threatening in nature.

Police said the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, but he was wearing headphones.

The collision remains under investigation.
