CFL agent Mark Maren has been arrested by American customs officials because he is wanted on a scheme to defraud warrant in Florida.
A CFL source requesting anonymity said Maren is currently in a New York state jail and had not yet been extradited to Florida.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in a statement issued Dec. 30., said Maren, 42, was applying for admission into the U.S. at the Ogdensburg, N.Y., border crossing.
Record checks by American authorities at the border confirmed a no-bond felony warrant had been issued against Maren on Jan. 10, 2010, by the sheriff's department in Pinellas County, Fla., charging him with scheme to defraud.
According to the release, the Toronto native presented a Canadian passport as proof of citizenship and told American authorities he wanted to enter the United States to obtain an entry waiver.
The release also stated Maren told authorities he has a criminal record in Canada.
Maren's list of clients includes quarterback Kevin Glenn and linebacker Otis Floyd of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, offensive lineman Obby Khan and linebacker Joe Lobendahn of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Barrin Simpson.
