Durham police say that two groups of suspects remain outstanding after an apparent shootout in front of a restaurant in Ajax late Thursday night.

Police say that a group of males and females came out of the Rum Diaries Restaurant and Lounge on Bayly Street West at around 11:40 p.m. and gathered in the parking lot. At some point, police say that members of the group fired multiple shots.

Police received several calls for the shooting in the area and arrived a short time later.

As officers arrived on scene, police say that they spotted a group of suspects leaving the area in a vehicle that was travelling along Brock Road to Highway 401 and began to pursue it without being seen.

The vehicle was then followed to the Finch Avenue and Driftwood Avenue area of Toronto with support from Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto police.

Once there, police say that uniformed officers activated emergency equipment and engaged in a brief pursuit of the vehicle that ended when it crashed into a retaining wall at a housing complex on Driftwood Court. The three occupants in the vehicle then got out and fled on foot, successfully evading officers.

Police have since seized the vehicle, though the suspects remain outstanding.

Police say that they are also looking for a second group of males who fled the scene of the earlier shooting. No suspect descriptions have been released at this time.

Police located 11 shell casings at the scene of the shooting and a stray bullet that ended up lodged in a business across the street.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the shooting.
