TORONTO - Two men have pleaded guilty in a suspected street racing accident that killed a couple who were out celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary.

Ruben Rodrigues, 22, of Maple, Ont., pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and Marco Gasparro, 19, of Richmond Hill pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

The pleas were made in court Tuesday.

Rob and Lisa Manchester of Richmond Hill, Ont., were killed instantly on May 27, 2006 when their car was struck by one of two vehicles. Witnesses at the accident scene reported the cars racing up Yonge Street at speeds close to 140 kilometres per hour.

Their seven-year-old daughter, Katie, was staying with neighbours at the time.

A sentencing hearing for Rodrigues and Gasparro is scheduled for Aug. 22, when victim impact statements are expected to be presented. Sentencing is expected to take place on Oct. 3.
