Two pedestrians are dead following a collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 407 on Monday.
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that a male and female were struck on the toll highway near its Yonge Street intersection just after 12 p.m.
Police said a silver Toyota Echo carrying four family members got a flat tire and stopped along Highway 407.
Two passengers remained inside the car while two others exited the vehicle to inspect the flat.
Police said the two passengers outside the car were struck by a blue Toyota pickup truck, which also struck the Echo.
OPP said they found the two pedestrians without vital signs. One was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Both of the victims were in their 60s and were from outside of Canada. They were in the country visiting family members and were on their way to a family gathering in Brampton when the crash occurred, police said.
The woman driving the pickup truck was taken to hospital as a precaution, but did not have serious injuries, police said.
Westbound lanes of Hwy. 407 were closed for much of the afternoon as police investigated and the Yonge Street ramps to the highway were also blocked.
The 407 was reopened around 4 p.m.
