Two Oakville teens are in hospital after being stabbed while Halton regional police have a third teen in custody.

The stabbings occurred at about 9 p.m. on Thursday night in Oakville not far from the Ford plant.

Both youths were taken to St. Michael's Hospital in downtown Toronto for treatment where they are in fair condition.

Police suspect the two might have been the object of a robbery attempt before the stabbings occurred.

According to a police news release, the two youths heard someone at their front door, then saw someone move to the home's rear.

The suspect entered the home through the back door, went down in the basement and started rummaging through personal belongings.

"A struggle ensued and during the confrontation the victim was stabbed with the knife. The other man in the home came to his friend's aid and was also stabbed. The suspect fled the area," police said.

The suspect was later arrested by police. He faces charges of:

  • robbery
  • two counts aggravated assault
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

He was held for a Friday bail hearing in Milton.

Halton police say they are continuing to investigate this incident and ask for the help of those who may have information.
