Two people were killed and a third seriously injured in a shooting inside an apartment building in northeast Toronto on Friday afternoon.

Police said a home invasion at a 14th floor apartment unit, at 1360 Brimley Rd. north of Eglinton Avenue, ended in a wild gunfight.

Eyewitnesses told the first officers on scene that two or three gunmen were still on the loose on the 14th floor. The Emergency Task Force was called, and officers sealed off the building's exits and entrances for some time.

Police found one man on the 14th floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim tried to flee the scene, but he collapsed and died in an elevator on the 16th floor, police said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither their ages nor their identities have been released.

A man considered a suspect was removed from the building by paramedics and taken to Sunnybrook hospital with bullet wounds to his chest. He is listed in serious condition.

Residents of the building were shocked by the incident.

"I got kids ... it's kind of scary," said one man.

"I think this is crazy," said one woman. "I have an 11-year-old son."

Police have not released a motive for the attack and no arrests have been made.
