Two people have been sent to hospital and three are in custody following a stabbing outside a Brampton high school.

The injuries of a 16-year-old boy were deemed serious enough to warrant sending him to the trauma centre at Toronto's Sunnybrook hospital, Const. Wayne Patterson of Peel police said Tuesday.

However, the injury is not considered life-threatening, he said.

Police were called to Turner Fenton Secondary school at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Patterson said.

The school is located near the intersection of Steeles Avenue East and Kennedy Road South, which is itself northwest of the intersection of Highways 410 and 407.

"It was at the northwest corner of the school," Patterson said.

CTV Toronto's John Musselman, reporting from the scene, reported that the victim is believed to be a Grade 11 student at the school, according to other students.

One student reporting hearing the victim screaming for help. He said teachers came to the boy's aid.

Patterson said three suspects were arrested. "Of those three, one of them had some injuries from this incident."

That individual was taken to a local hospital, he said.

Musselman said the takedown of the three suspects happened near a Lowes Home Improvement store north of Steeles Avenue.

Police were unable to confirm the ages of the three detained males. Musselman said it isn't known yet if the suspects are students at the school.

The suspected crime scene was sealed off Tuesday afternoon while forensics investigators took photographs, he said.
