York Regional Police have charged two Toronto teens after a man and his two sons were held up in the driveway of their Vaughan home.
The robbery occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Nov. 22 at a home on Park Ridge Drive in Kleinburg.
Police said a 52-year-old man and his two sons – aged 15 and 17 years old – had just gone out to a vehicle in their driveway when they were approached by three men.
The men, two of whom were armed with handguns, told the father to go back inside the house with them, police said.
When the father refused, a short struggle ensued. Two of the suspects went into the garage and demanded wallets and cell phones from the man’s sons.
The boys eventually turned over their belongings and the suspects fled.
None of the family members were harmed in the incident.
With the help of witnesses, investigators were able to track down and arrest two of the suspects within hours, drawing praise from YRP Chief Eric Jolliffe.
“The actions of our highly professional frontline officers and the quick follow-up by the dedicated investigators in our Hold-Up Unit led to these two arrests,” Jolliffe said in a news release.
He also praised the immediate help of witnesses.
Tenzin Choe Ying Dorjee, 18, and Migmar Tenzin, 19, have both been charged with three counts of robbery with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime.
They were scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday morning.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
