A truck driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing death in connection with a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 427 in Etobicoke on Monday morning.

Allen James Brooks died at the scene of the rush-hour collision, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Investigators said a tractor-trailer travelling north in the collector lanes near Burnhamthorpe Road failed to stop when traffic slowed. The vehicle slammed into three vans and an SUV.

Brooks, at the wheel of one of the vans, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several people were taken to hospital.

The accident closed down a large stretch of the highway for most of the day, resulting in traffic headaches.

Police have charged is 46-year-old Myroslav Vivchar of Etobicoke. He is also charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
