A Hamilton man is dead following a collision with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highway 7 and 50.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

"The victim, a 22 year-old male from Hamilton, was operating a 2000 Subaru eastbound on Highway 7. At this time, a 2008 Volvo tractor truck was travelling westbound on Highway 7, attempting to turn left onto Highway 50," Peel Regional Police said Tuesday in a news release.

"Due to circumstances still under investigation, a violent collision occurred in the intersection."

The male driver of the car suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The intersection remained closed for most of the morning.

"Officers from the Major Collision Bureau are asking for anyone who witnessed this collision, or who has information in relation to this matter, to contact them at (905) 453-2121, ext 3710," police said.
