‘Some of the coldest wind chills we’ve felt in years:' Temperatures to feel like the -20s in Toronto

An extreme cold warning for Toronto and other parts of the GTHA has been lifted but the frigid conditions remain, with the temperature expected to feel like - 20 with the wind chill for much of the day.

The temperature was sitting at -15 C as of 10 a.m., feeling closer to -23 with the wind chill.

The weather will warm up to a high of just -11 C today but will feel more like -20.

The city will see slightly warmer temperatures on Thursday, when the daytime high rises to -6 C in the afternoon. The wind chill will make it feel closer to -18 in the morning and -13 in the afternoon. Active weather is also expected on Thursday. Environment Canada says there is a 70 per cent chance of flurries.

More seasonable temperatures return on Friday.

The national weather agency says Toronto will see a high of -5 C on Friday, -4 C on Saturday, and -3 C on Sunday.

CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said this week’s weather represents “some of the coldest wind chills we’ve felt in years.”

“We will see late day flurries that will linger into Thursday morning and could dust surfaces like roadways with 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow by tomorrow midday,” Coulter said.

“The frigid impact of a disrupted polar vortex is almost at an end. Temperatures stabilize tonight and climb to minus mid-single digits tomorrow. The weekend is looking more manageable, with milder temperatures climbing close to the freezing mark on Sunday.”
