Streetcar service resumes following 'extensive repairs' at King and Spadina intersection

Intersection reopens days after wires damaged The intersection of King and Spadina has reopened days after a garbage truck downed streetcar wires, damaging them.

Streetcar service has resumed at a major downtown intersection that had been closed since a garbage truck took down some overhead wires on Tuesday morning.

The TTC says that regular service has now resumed on the 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcar routes following the completion of “extensive repairs” at the intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue.

The intersection was reopened for motor vehicles later in the evening, which means service also resumed on the 510 Spadina route that utilizes buses.

“After working day and night for the past three days, TTC crews have completed extensive repairs at the intersection of King St. and Spadina Ave., which means it can reopen for streetcar service,” interim TTC CEO Greg Percy said in a statement on Friday morning. “I want to thank everyone for their tireless efforts to complete this work quickly and safely. I also want to thank our customers for their patience during the closure.”

In his statement, Percy said that King and Spadina is a “complex” intersection due to the presence of “multiple intertwining cables and connectors supported by multiple poles.”

Her said that all of that equipment has to be inspected first, before crews could restring the downed wires and restore power to the streetcar tracks.

“I want to recognize everyone’s hard work and dedication to getting this done,” he said.
