CALGARY -- Police were questioning three people Monday in the shooting of an innocent bystander outside a Calgary bar on the weekend.
Natasha Mohamed Farah, 26, of Toronto, was killed when multiple shots were fired while she was standing with friends in the Beltline district.
She went out Friday night with some friends to "socialize, have a few drinks and head home," said acting Staff-Sgt. Michael Cavilla with the homicide unit.
When the bar closed early Saturday, she was hit by a stray bullet that likely came from a vehicle with several people inside.
"We have a young, innocent female that was gunned down in front of a club," Cavilla said.
"This was reckless and tragic."
Three men were later arrested in a hotel in the city's northwest and taken into custody. One was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for an attempted murder in Toronto.
Police were still looking for a fourth man and released his photo later Monday.
Cavilla said it's believed all four men are from Toronto.
He said Farah was also from Toronto and had moved to Calgary almost a year ago. But other than the Toronto link, there is no connection between the victim and the four men, he added.
Investigators are still trying to determine who was the intended target, Cavilla said. Several shots were fired and there were many people standing outside at the time.
"We are extremely fortunate that there was only one person hit with a bullet," he said.
A few people on Twitter, who identified themselves as Farah's cousins, said they were shocked and angry to learn she had been killed.
"Rest in peace my dear cousin natasha! Who gt shot in #calgary this morning i love you forever sis," wrote one woman.
"She was just at the wrong place wrong time its sad how she got hurt out of every one," said another.
Farah's LinkedIn online profile said she studied law and mass communications at Carleton University in Ottawa before completing a public relations diploma at Toronto's Humber College in 2012.
Danielle Iversen, president of a Toronto company called "that pr thing inc.," said Farah worked for her as an intern in 2012 and stood out among other students over the years.
"She was an amazing girl, always had a smile on her face, was always happy, would do anything for anybody. She really worked hard."
Iversen said she had trouble believing news that Farah was dead.
The shooting was the first of three in as many days in the city.
A second shooting early Sunday in the Tuscany neighbourhood injured a woman in her 40s, who was in critical but stable condition in hospital. Police said the woman and the shooter knew each other.
Ulises Quinteros, 51, was arrested in Kenora, Ont., Monday morning.
No one was hurt in the latest shooting, also on Monday, in Monterey Park, but two homes and a car were hit by bullets.
