TORONTO - A Toronto educator has been charged after police say she sexually assaulted a teenage student more than a decade ago.

Police say the woman was working as an educational assistant at the Bloor Collegiate Institute at the time.

They allege that between September 2001 and June 2003, she sexually assaulted a student during school hours and after school.

Police say the student was 14 when the alleged incidents began.

Yolande Bernadette Byam, now 47, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

She is due in court July 5.

Police say she is still working for the Toronto District School Board.
