Toronto simmers in week of delightful spring weather

A record-setting weekend is expected to be followed by a wonderful week of warm weather, according to Environment Canada.

The weather service said the Toronto area should expect spring-like temperatures through the week after the mercury broke a 35-year-old record Sunday.

Toronto's temperature of 17.7 degrees Celsius surpassed the 15.3 C record set on March 11, 1977.

Temperatures across the region were expected to be 10 to 15 degrees above normal values through the week thanks to a high pressure system moving over the southern United States.

According to Environment Canada, Toronto typically sees a high of 4 C at this time of year.

Temperatures quickly ascended to 7 C Monday morning and stayed unseasonably warm throughout the day, despite some rain in the afternoon.

The forecast called for daytime highs between 15 C and 17 C through the week, leading into a sunny weekend with, again, expected highs of 15 C and 16 C respectively.
