Toronto is a week away from October, but it is enjoying a record-setting reminder of summer's heat.

At 2 p.m. on Friday, Environment Canada measured a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius at its Pearson International Airport weather station. The temperature reached 30C at noon.

That exceeds the former record of 27.2C, set in 1968. In comparison, the record low of -2.2C was set in 1974.

The average daytime high so far this month has been 21.8C.

Wind is accompanying the heat, with gusts of between 50 and 80 kilometres per hour expected this afternoon.

There is a 30 per cent chance of showers early this evening.

If you were hoping for this burst of heat to last through the weekend, you will be disappointed. The predicted high for Saturday and Sunday is 17C.
