Toronto police executed a series of search warrants across the city Thursday morning, in what appears to be a crackdown on the city's illegal drug trade.
Toronto police confirmed that a handful of search warrants were executed across the Greater Toronto Area throughout the morning.
Several people were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters in the pre-dawn raids. One raid took place in a downtown condominium near Front Street and Spadina Avenue.
Const. Tony Vella said police could not confirm the number of arrests made in the searches, and police have not said what prompted the sweep.
The project was led by TAVIS (Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy) officers. It is believed that the investigation involved the trade and sale of illicit drugs.
More searches are expected to be conducted through the afternoon and possibly Friday morning.
