A civilian member of the Toronto Police Service has been charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a home in the Mimico area of Etobicoke.

In a news release issued Friday, police said that a woman answered a knock at her apartment door on Wednesday evening.

"Three men, one armed with a firearm, forced their way in," they alleged.

The suspects allegedly demanded and obtained property before fleeing the residence, located in the area of 6th Street and Lake Shore Boulevard, Const. Tony Vella, a Toronto Police Service spokesperson, told CTV Toronto.

Responding officers arrested two suspects nearby. They are still looking for the third.

Steven Reid, 25, of Toronto is a court officer for the service. He has one year of experience. Vella said court officers escort prisoners at the courthouse. They are not armed, he said.

Reid faces the following charges:

  • robbery while armed with a firearm, two counts
  • forcible confinement, two counts
  • personating a peace officer
  • theft over $5,000
  • possession of property obtained by crime

Vinroy Ellis, 23, of Toronto faces the following charges:

  • robbery while armed with a firearm, two counts
  • forcible confinement, two counts

The two had been scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

"Police believe there may be other victims," Vella said.

No description was given of the third suspect. Vella said investigators are intentionally not releasing it at this time.
