TORONTO - A 49-year-old Toronto man has admitted shooting three members of his family and burning the bodies in October 2007.

Bao Mac pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Newmarket, Ont., court to three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of his four-year-old daughter, 47-year-old wife and her 22-year-old daughter.

Mac has been in custody since a warrant for his arrest was executed on Nov. 4, 2007, following a lengthy hospital stay that included a drug-induced coma.

He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after he recovered from severe burns.

The bodies of victims Zu Ling He, 47, Qian Jenny Zhao, 22, and Lisa Mac, 4, all dead of gunshot wounds, were found in a burned-out van on October 14, 2007.

Police say a man suffering from severe burns had gone to a nearby house and asked for help.

When police and fire personnel arrived at the Seventh Concession and Sixteenth Sideroad area in King Township, they discovered a van fully engulfed in flames, with the bodies of the women and the child inside.

Mac is tentatively scheduled to appear for a sentencing hearing on Jan. 4, 2011.
