A 69-year-old Toronto man has been charged in a sexual assault investigation involving a six-year-old boy, police said.

The sexual assault happened in the Danforth Islamic Centre, located in the area of Danforth and Victoria Park Avenues, on May 3. Police said the boy was approached by the man, who showed him a sexually explicit video. The boy was then sexually assaulted, police said.

Dewan Syed Mosiur Reza was arrested on Thursday by officers from the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. He has been charged with:

  • Making available sexually explicit material to a person under or believed to be under 16 years of age for specific criminal offences
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age

Reza appeared in court on Friday.

Police believe there may be more victims. They say Reza had access to children in two home daycares in Toronto.

From 1999 to 2009, he had access to children in a daycare in the Crescent Town neighbourhood in the area Danforth and Victoria Park Avenues. That daycare is no longer in business. And from 2009 to the present, police say Reza had access to children in a daycare at 155 Heale Ave.
