A 26-year-old Toronto man has been arrested in the subway stabbing death of 21-year-old Nick Brown, who was laid to rest on Friday.

Brown was found badly wounded inside an otherwise empty subway car at Kennedy station early last Friday. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The post-mortem examination found he died of multiple stab wounds, including one to the left thigh.

Police had released security camera images of a man leaving the station earlier this week.

John Paul Vallon is charged with second-degree murder, Toronto police announced late Thursday night.

He appeared in court on Friday morning as the funeral for Brown was being held.

Vallon was remanded into custody until his next court appearance at the end of the month.

Police have not released a motive in the killing. Investigators believe the victim and the accused did not know each other.

Meanwhile, Toronto police are investigating the second stabbing in less than a week at the Kennedy subway station following an altercation between two groups of people late Wednesday night.

A boy believed to be 16-year-old was stabbed twice in the back at about 11:30 p.m. while on the bus platform, police said.

Police described the victim as a homeless youth who had been kicked out of a nearby youth shelter.

The incident took place in front of a number of witnesses, who reported a fight between two groups of people after one group began picking on the other.

The victim was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital, where he is expected to remain for a week while he recovers.

The stabbing has prompted Toronto transit authorities to review its security measures.

TTC chairman Adam Giambrone says the commission will be installing more cameras and special constables in the coming months.
