A Toronto man faces charges after threatening to stab a TTC bus driver to death over a disputed fare.

Police said the 23-year-old man boarded a bus at Kipling Avenue and Hayhurst Drive in the city's west end at around 7:15 p.m. Monday night without paying the correct fare.

The accused then threatened the driver claiming he would "would stab him and cut him up."

Police arrested the man at the scene. He is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Feb. 28.

The incident comes one day after a TTC fare collector was shot during a robbery at the Dupont Subway station Sunday night.

Toronto police said the victim was shot once in the neck and once in the shoulder. He remains in St. Michael's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
