Power has been restored after a large outage in the downtown core this morning.

The boundaries of the outage were Queen Street to the north, the Esplanade to the south, Bay Street to the west, and George Street to the east.

According to Toronto Hydro, up to 8,000 customers were without power starting around 8 a.m.

As a result, police were directing traffic at several intersections during the morning rush-hour.

In one instance, emergency crews were called to 150 Cosburn Avenue after a woman drove her car through an underground garage door.

“I assume she panicked and probably put her foot on the accelerator,” witness Jay Gangursky told CTV Toronto.

The woman was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The power was restored shortly after 9 a.m.

It still hasn’t been determined whether the outage was weather-related, but a large thunderstorm had rumbled through the city at that time.
