TORONTO - Toronto FC has parted ways with out-of-favour forward Ali Gerba, reaching an agreement to terminate his contract.

New coach Preki sent Gerba home during a pre-season tournament in South Carolina last month, saying he was underperforming.

Gerba, 28, was signed by Toronto last June. The Canadian started five of 11 games for the MLS club, scoring one goal.

"We want to wish Ali all the best, and thank him for his contribution to the club" Mo Johnston, Toronto's director of soccer, said in a statement Monday.

Preki has wasted little time revamping the Toronto roster since taking over the helm.

He traded Canadian defender Adrian Serioux to the Houston Dynamo and Welsh midfielder Carl Robinson to the New York Red Bulls, both for draft picks.

The club also elected not to pick up the options on forward Pablo Vitti and midfielders Amado Guevara and Lesly Fellinga.

Toronto FC also signed draft pick Joseph Nane to a developmental contract on Monday.

Johnston described the 23-year-old midfielder out of Old Dominion University as "a good young prospect."
