TORONTO - Toronto FC has signed a pair of defenders in Canadian Adrian Cann and Russian Maksim Usanov.

Cann, 29, has spent the last two seasons in the Danish league with Esberg FB. Prior to that he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact.

Drafted 16th overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids, he made two appearances for Colorado before being released midway through his first MLS season.

"We're delighted to complete the signing of another Canadian international," Mo Johnston, Toronto's director of soccer, said in a statement Monday. "Adrian will add to our backline with his height and his strength, so we're looking forward to seeing what he can do on the field for us.

"Max is another good young signing for us at the back. He attacks well and defends well."

The 25-year-old Usanov, who is awaiting a Canadian work permit, was most recently with FC Krasnodar in Russia. Prior to that he played in Latvia for FC Skonto.

Toronto FC, 0-2 after two losses on the road, play their home opener Thursday against the fledgling Philadelphia Union.
