A Toronto-area man was presented with a $50-million cheque Tuesday, after winning Friday's Lotto Max Jackpot.

Timothy Schell, 34, was on hand at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's downtown office to receive his winnings.

Schell said he was still in "total shock" since discovering he had won the jackpot.

"It still hasn't really hit me," he told reporters. "I'm just in awe. I'm saying ‘wow' every five seconds."

A self-described "country-boy" who moved to Toronto from Alberta two years ago, Schell said he only plays the lottery once or twice a year, but decided to purchase a ticket for Friday's lottery after a chance encounter with a gas-station attendant.

"I went in and got gas for the truck and the guy's like ‘Oh $50 million, buy a ticket, buy a ticket,'" said Schell. "He kind of talked me into it."

Despite hearing the news that a Toronto-area resident had won the grand prize on Saturday, Schell said he did not check his ticket until Tuesday morning when a co-worker said he would check his own ticket. This reminded Schell to check his own numbers.

Schell told reporters he doesn't see his life drastically changing, despite taking home the grand prize.

He said he thinks he'll continue to work, after taking a "two or three-week holiday."

"I don't think I'll quit my job and take off for a year, I'm a pretty laid back guy," said Schell.

Besides taking a holiday, Schell said he will buy a new house and continue his hobby of buying and restoring muscle cars and motorbikes, with the possibility of opening up his own repair shop.

Schell said he also plans on dropping by the gas-station where he bought the ticket and thanking the attendant who convinced him to play.

"I might even give him a little bonus," he said.
