TORONTO -- Toronto-area real estate agents have had a stronger start to the new year than last January but activity was slower than in the first half of December.
The local real estate association reports its members had 1,469 transactions in the first two weeks of January, up 35 units from a year before.
There was also a four per cent increase year to year in the average transaction price, which rose to $459,728 in the first half of January from $442,292 last year.
However, the number of Toronto-area homes sold and the average price was down compared with the first half of December.
The association reported last month that there were 2,169 units sold in the Greater Toronto Area from Dec. 1 to 14, at an average price of $471,862.
The report from the Greater Toronto Realtors association comes a day after its national counterpart reported a significant slowdown in activity in December.
