Three people were taken to hospital, including one in critical condition, following a crash near Schomberg early Saturday morning.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, an eastbound Ford Escape crossed the median and collided with a westbound Dodge Caravan while travelling along Highway 9 near 11th Concession at around 3:20 a.m.

Emergency crews needed more than an hour to extricate the 57-year-old male driver of the Caravan. He was then transported to an Orangeville hospital before being airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in critical condition.

The 22-year-old male driver of the Ford Escape was also taken to an Orangeville hospital before being airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital in serious condition.

A third person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

“At this point we are appealing for any witnesses as their statements would certainly help us with our investigation,” OPP Const. Lisa McIntyre told CP24 at the scene.

Highway 9 was closed between 11th Concession and 15th Concession as police investigated, but it reopened at around 12 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Brennan at (905) 841-5777.
