About 16 fire trucks were called in to help battle a three-alarm blaze at a town home in the city’s east end early Saturday morning.

The fire broke out at an address on Esterbrooke Avenue near Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue at around 12:40 a.m.

According to Capt. Mike Strapko, the fire began in the basement of the residence but soon spread outside, threatening several other buildings and prompting the evacuation of 35 people.

An estimated $500,000 in damage was caused by the fire.

Nobody was injured as a result.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called to investigate.
