The passengers on these Turkish Airlines flights may have been exposed to measles: Peel Public Health
Peel Public Health is reporting a case of measles involving someone with a recent history of international travel.
The local health unit said the case was confirmed on Tuesday. It did not release other details about the person.
Health officials said passengers on the following flights may have been exposed to measles:
-
Dec. 4 Turkish Airlines Flight TK707 from Kabul to Istanbul
-
Dec. 4 Turkish Airlines Flight TK17 from Istanbul to Toronto
Those who were at Toronto Pearson’s Terminal 1 on Dec. 4 between 6:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. may have also been exposed, Peel Public Health said.
Officials are advising the affected individuals to watch for symptoms of measles for 21 days from their exposure and contact their health-care provider if they experience them.
Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red watery eyes, sensitivity to light, and a red rash lasting four to seven days.
This is the third case of measles in Peel Region this year. As of Dec. 4, there are 53 cases of the highly contagious disease in Ontario.
Of those, seven needed to be hospitalized. In May, a Hamilton child under the age of five died after contracting measles.
The Public Health Agency of Canada has said the country is seeing an increase in measles activity this year compared to 2023.
As of Nov. 30, there are 138 cases nationwide. There were only 12 measles cases in Canada last year.
