A 19-year-old woman tumbled over a retaining wall in Niagara Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called around 4:30 p.m after the woman, believed to be tourist, fell off a retaining wall just 100 metres from the falls into the river below. Investigators said the two dams that lower the water level in that section were immediately shut off. Ropes and a basket were lowered to pull the teen from the river bank, police said.

Police said the woman has been taken to a local hospital. Details on the woman's condition have not been released. Police did not say what caused the fall.

This is not the first time a person has tumbled over the retaining wall.

In August, a 20-year-old Japanese student fell over the railing and died.

Ayano Tokumasu, who was studying in Toronto, fell over the wall while trying to take a photo.
