TORONTO - A 16-year-old Toronto girl is facing an attempted murder charge after a man was stabbed during a residential break-in in Vaughan, Ont.

York regional police say a 49-year-old man answered the door at his home on Giotto Crescent on Thursday night.

A girl at the door asked if she could use the washroom, but police say the homeowner closed the door.

Police say the man heard strange noises about 30 minutes later and was confronted by the same girl, who had broken into the home and was attempting to steal car keys.

The man was stabbed in the abdomen -- suffering serious injuries -- but managed to remove the girl from his home and call police.

The girl was arrested and charged with attempted murder, weapons dangerous and break and enter.
