A teenage boy who died in hospital days after being shot in the neck has been identified as 17-year-old Joseph Petit.

Petit died in hospital Thursday afternoon, and police are now treating the investigation as a homicide, according to Toronto police spokesperson Const. Victor Kwong.

Police said the teen was seen walking his German Shepherd on Dentonia Park Avenue, near Victoria Park and Danforth Avenues, at approximately 5:50 p.m. He ived in the area with his parents and two sisters.

He returned home to drop off the dog, then left immediately to meet two males outside the house, police said. He had a brief conversation with the males, and a struggle ensued, officers said in a statement Friday. He was shot in the neck during the altercation.

Police are searching for two suspects who were seen leaving the area after the shooting, walking toward Victoria Park Station, but no details on the suspects have been released.

Police said Monday that the incident does not appear to be random.

Homicide Det. Gary Giroux has taken over the investigation, Const. Kwong said.
