A teenager is facing four charges after a student was stabbed seven times inside a west-end Toronto high school on Thursday morning.
The attack happened at about 9:30 a.m. at Humberside Collegiate Institute, on Quebec Avenue near Keele and Dundas Streets.
Police say a 17-year-old boy in Grade 12 student was stabbed by another boy, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student. The bloodied victim stumbled down the hall to the office for help. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident triggered a lockdown, and police were called. Officers scoured the school and arrested the young suspect there a short time later.
The lockdown ended after about 90 minutes, school officials said.
Police have not yet released a motive for the attack, but the school principal, June Stavropoulos, said the victim had been in a fight.
The 16-year-old suspect cannot be named because of his age. He was charged with:
- aggravated assault;
- assault with a weapon;
- weapons dangerous; and
- carrying a concealed weapon.
