A Toronto teenager has been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed a popular High Park playground last week.

The Jamie Bell playground, funded and built by community volunteers, was set ablaze around 3 a.m. on March 17. Police immediately suspected arson.

The fire destroyed the playground's unique wooden castles, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Christian Kupiecki, 19, was arrested Friday and charged with arson and attempt to obstruct justice.

He will make a court appearance in May.

High Park neighbourhood residents, including Coun. Sarah Doucette, have vowed to rebuild the playground. Donations are being collected.
