BOWMANVILLE, Ont. -- A Toronto teenager has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a four-year-old boy in Bowmanville last summer.

Durham regional police say the 16-year-old was arrested Thursday without incident but cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Terrel Vidal was found without vital signs on Aug. 28, at a home in the community east of Oshawa and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police had said at the time of his death, the boy was being cared for at the home of a family friend.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and police say an investigation determined the boy's death was not caused by an accident, slip or fall.

Last month a 35-year-old Toronto woman was charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection with the case.

Police say no further arrests are anticipated in the investigation.
