A 15-year-old boy is facing four charges after he allegedly shots several bullets from a pellet gun inside a public high school cafeteria in Toronto's west end. The incident triggered a lockdown.
The teenager allegedly began firing the rubberized pellets at about 10:40 a.m. inside Vaughan Road Academy, in the Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue area.
One of the pellets struck a student in the hand, but the victim was not injured, police said.
A school liaison officer, who was inside the school at the time, was notified of the shooting. He took the boy into custody a short time later.
The incident triggered a three-hour lockdown. Officers searched the school, but did not find the weapon.
The youth is charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Weapons dangerous
- Common nuisance
- Mischief
The boy, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is to appear at the Old City Hall courts on Saturday.
Police have not released a possible motive in the incident. Vaughan Road Academy has about 800 students and staff. Many of the students are in the International Baccalaureate program, the Toronto Star reported.
