TORONTO - The RCMP has arrested a 38-year-old Toronto man on charges of using human couriers to import heroin into Canada through Pearson International Airport.

Stanley Obianaewu was arrested during a court date Tuesday in Toronto where he was appearing on unrelated charges.

The RCMP alleges Obianaewu is part of a smuggling operation that led to the arrest of a 21-year-old pregnant woman at Pearson Airport in January 2006.

The woman was allegedly importing 140 grams of heroin and police claim Obianaewu offered her between $5,000 and $10,000 for her services.

Obianaewu allegedly made the courier's travel arrangements and provided expense money and a cellular phone for the trip.

The RCMP say the pregnant woman jeopardized her health, but do not indicate if she had ingested the heroin or was carrying the drug into the airport.
