Toronto police are asking for the public's help in locating a man wanted in an aggravated assault investigation that appears to bear the hallmarks of a road rage incident.

Police were called to an apartment building on McLevin Road, near Neilson Road and Sheppard Avenue East, just after 7:15 a.m. Monday.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a 35-year-old man who had been stabbed several times in the upper body.

Now in stable condition, the victim remains in hospital on Monday afternoon, Toronto police Const. Tony Vella told ctvtoronto.ca, just after 1 p.m. ET.

Police learned of the incident after the victim showed up at the apartment where he lived, seeking help.

The wife of the building's superintendent answered her door Monday morning and found the stabbing victim standing there. He told her about what happened.

Speaking to CTV Toronto on Monday morning, Violet Soundranayagam, pointed to blood stains on her carpet.

"Lots of bleeding," Soundranayagam said, who added that it appeared he had been stabbed in the neck and back.

Relatives identify the victim as Gunanayagam Thurainayagam, a married father of two who runs a cleaning company.

The victim told Soundranayagam that he had dropped off a relative at the airport before the incident occurred.

When he was on his way home, police say the victim and the suspect were both driving on Highway 401 near Neilson Road.

Police say the suspect followed the victim off the highway, where the two got into a verbal altercation near the intersection of Neilson Road and Wickson Trail.

The victim told police the suspect then smashed his car window and when he tried to confront him, he was stabbed.

Toronto police Det. Mark Niezen said the incident escalated from an exchange of words.

"A verbal confrontation which led to a physical altercation, which led to the victim being stabbed approximately five times," he told CTV Toronto.

The suspect fled the scene in a 1993 red Honda with the licence plate 44T 032, which may have a Toronto Maple Leaf logo on it.

After the incident, the victim apparently drove several blocks north to the McLevin Road apartment building where police found him.

Police say they are now looking for John Hoang, a 28-year-old Toronto man who is wanted for aggravated assault.

Hoang is described as an Asian male who stands between 5'8" and 5'10" in height. He has black hair.

Members of the public are asked not to approach the suspect or his vehicle. Instead, they are asked to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact either Det. Mark Niezen, or Det. John Sievers, at 416-808-4204.

Members of the public can also call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477, they can send a tip in online at www.222tips.com, or they can text TOR along with their message to CRIMES (274637).
