A man wanted in connection with a second-degree murder in Toronto was arrested in Halifax, Nova Scotia, police confirmed Sunday.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the area of Davenport Road and Old Weston Road in the Stockyards District to check on someone who they believed required assistance.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the man dead inside the home.

Police later confirmed that the victim was killed as a result of blunt force trauma.

On Saturday, officials identified a 46-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the homicide.

Officers confirmed that the suspect, identified as Anthony Brake, was the owner of the home where the victim was found.

Police confirmed that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances but it is not clear what the victim was doing at the home.

“(The) Halifax Police Service, at about 1:15 this morning, received a call to a private residence advising that they believe Mr. Brake was in fact at that residence. They attended, he identified himself and he was taken into custody without incident,” Toronto police Det. Robert North said at a news conference Sunday.

Brake briefly appeared in court in Halifax on Sunday and police say he will be transferred to Toronto, where he will make another court appearance next week at Old City Hall.

It was not immediately clear what Brake’s connection to Halifax was, North said. Police will release the identity of the victim when the next of kin is notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
