Police arrested two Richmond Hill residents in Ottawa on Monday on charges related to a January murder outside a Vaughan banquet hall.

The Paradise Banquet Hall had been hosting two events of about 150 people each when the shooting occurred on Jan. 21. Toronto resident Arash Elijah Bakhtaryani, 27, was found outside the Jane Street venue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Bakhtaryani later died in hospital.

Regional Police Police obtained an arrest warrant for Richmond Hill resident Mohand Mohamed, 31, on Jan. 28.

The investigation led them to Ottawa, where they enlisted the help of the Ottawa Police Service. A team of officers from both forces made the arrest at an Ottawa residence in Monday's early hours.

Mohamed was taken into custody without incident and charged with first-degree murder. Richmond Hill resident Maryam Torabipour, 26, was also arrested, charged with acting as an accessory to murder after the fact.

Both are set to appear in court in Newmarket on Tuesday.
