A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault reported on New Year's Day in Newmarket.

The assault occurred on Jan. 1, at approximately 3 a.m. York Regional Police said an 18-year-old woman had left the GO bus terminal and was walking west on a pathway near Davis Drive when she was approached by a man.

The man grabbed her, forced her to the ground and assaulted her, officers said. Police released a composite sketch of the suspect on Monday, and the image was circulated among GO Transit customers who use the terminal.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old man was arrested Thursday night.

Police said Kevin Wyatt, of Newmarket, has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm. Wyatt will appear in court on Jan. 12.
