NEWMARKET, Ont. - A young Ontario woman charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder after a brutal home invasion in which both her parents were shot made a brief court appearance today.

Jennifer Pan is alleged to have conspired with three armed men who held the family hostage for half-an-hour on Nov. 8 in their home north of Toronto.

The 24-year-old was tied up but otherwise unharmed during the home invasion.

Her mother, 53-year-old Bieh Ha Pan, was shot and killed. Her father, 57-year-old Huei Hann Pan, managed to make his way to a neighbour's house after the men left, despite being critically shot.

Police initially called it a "random" attack, but arrested Pan two weeks later.

Pan appeared in a Newmarket, Ont., court today and her case was put over until Dec. 8.

She also faces a conspiracy charge, which investigators have said is based on their belief there was some planning involved in the attack.

The three remaining suspects are still at large.

Huei Hann Pan is recovering from his injuries and has been told his daughter has been charged in the case.
