TORONTO - Residents who live near the site of a 2008 propane explosion in north Toronto want the site rezoned for residential use.

The 1.1 hectare site of the former Sunrise Propane near Downsview Airport is up for sale as vacant industrial land. It's listed at $2.2 million.

Residents have called a public meeting for tonight to discuss ways of having the site rezoned.

The explosion and fire at the Sunrise facility caused the evacuation of a 1.6-kilometre area and affected thousands of residents and businesses.

Two people died as a result of the blast on Aug. 10, 2008.

The cause of the blast was identified as a propane leak that resulted from a hose failure during a "tank-to-tank" transfer from one cargo truck to another.
