A 17-year-old student has been arrested after reports of a gun sent a Brampton school into lockdown late Thursday morning.

The suspect was apprehended after a pellet gun was found a short distance from the school.

Students were not allowed to leave their classrooms at St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary School from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. while police and canine teams combed the area.

Peel police were tight-lipped about details of the incident, but earlier reports said an argument erupted between a man and a woman on a street near the school, in the Highway 7 and Chinguacousy Road area.

During the dispute, another man reportedly intervened, and one of the three pulled out a handgun. It's not clear who had the weapon.

The student faces dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon charges.

There were no reports of shots being fired or any injuries.
