TORONTO - After a night of heavy rain, southern Ontario can expect a day of stiff winds.

A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada this morning says winds will range from 50 to 70 kilometres per hour, with a few peak gusts of 80 kilometres.

The winds will last into the afternoon before easing.

The agency says the winds will be strong enough to bring down some large tree limbs and perhaps cause some localized power outages.

As well, vehicles with high profiles may be difficult to drive at times in the wind gusts.

Environment Canada says winds are unlikely to hit the 90 kilometres an hour that would trigger a wind warning, although the odd gust close to that level is possible.
