A 26-year-old Stouffville man is dead after a head-on car crash in Markham early Sunday morning.
The man's vehicle was travelling northbound on 9th Line just after midnight when it suddenly swerved into oncoming traffic, running into another car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman driving that car was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening and her passenger was not injured, York Region police said.
Police are looking into whether there may have been a mechanical problem with the man's car after discovering one of the wheels detached from the vehicle. They have also learned the headlights were not on at the time of the crash.
