A judge has delayed moving the killer of 14-year-old Stefanie Rengel to an adult penitentiary until 2011.
Justice Ian Nordheimer ruled Wednesday that David Bagshaw should stay in a youth facility beyond his 20th birthday because he is showing signs of progress.
Bagshaw turns 20 this upcoming January.
Typically, young offenders are transferred to an adult facility when they turn 20 unless a judge finds that there are extenuating circumstances.
Bagshaw is currently serving a life sentence with no chance of parole for 10 years. He admitted to stabbing Stefanie and leaving her to die on a snowbank in front of her East York home on New Year's Day 2008. He told authorities he did it to appease his girlfriend Melissa Todorovic who was pathologically jealous over the younger girl.
Todorovic was convicted of first degree murder in a separate trial for masterminding the crime. She was also sentenced to a life term as an adult but she will be eligible for parole in seven years.
Todorovic is appealing her conviction and sentence.
