MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says an officer with the London Police Service is now facing an assault charge after an arrest in February.

The SIU says a 54-year-old man was in the emergency room of a local hospital when he encountered the officer, who was there on an unspecified, unrelated matter.

It says the officer discovered there was a warrant out for the man's arrest, but did not say how this information came to light.

The SIU says the man sustained unspecified serious injuries while the officer arrested him.

Const. Travis Buckle is now facing one count of assault causing bodily harm.

The SIU is an oversight agency that investigates incidents involving police in which someone is killed, seriously injured or accused of sexual assault.
